About this project

Tree plantation projects for climate change mitigation requires large numbers of planting material in the form of seedlings raised in plastic polybags in controlled forest nurseries and which when mature are transported to remote locations for planting. The department produces on an average a million seedlings of different species in over 30 forest nurseries across the state. The local people also visit the nurseries for purchasing tree saplings, which is good source of revenue for the organization.

There was difficulty in knowing the real time stock position of seedlings of different species of trees spread across different nurseries. Local people also didn’t know the availability of saplings of different species. In order to solve these and other pain points, this information system was developed.

My Role (Deputy Conservator of Forests (IT & Statistics) in the Tripura Forest Department)

As the product manager on the product, I carried out the following:

  1. User interviews with officials at different levels of management and local people to understand their requirements
  2. Develop EPICs and User Persona for the different categories of users
  3. Prioritization of Product Features
  4. Managing the engineering team for timely delivery
  5. Wireframing of key User Interfaces
  6. Testing of applications for detection of bugs and further refinement
  7. Release of applications followed by detailed user feedback collection for further refinement
